In our previous article, we presented to you some of our favorite vegetarian and vegan restaurants in Sofia. Are you curious to explore more of them? Let’s dive in together!

Veda House

What is better than a vegetarian restaurant? A vegetarian restaurant and a teahouse hosting tarot readings and henna painting events, of course! Veda House combines both a teahouse and lactovegetarian restaurant, based on the Ayurveda principles. It offers a rich menu consisting of a soup of the day (published daily on their Facebook page), vegan salads, hummus, veggie balls, pasta, basmati rice, curry, and ayurvedic bonbons. An excellent idea is to order some of their delicious desserts in combination with a selection from their huge variety of teas. Among our favorites are the Rooibos Masala tea, as well as the ayurvedic teas suitable for the specific doshas - kapha, pitta, and vata. If you have no idea which your dominant dosha is, according to Ayurveda, you can do a quick test here (Dosha Quiz | Chopra) or here (Dosha Quiz | Pukka). The restaurant also has a tea store.

Sun Moon

Are you a big fan of raw bonbons, like us? Chia Maria, Mint, or Hazelnut truffles - Sun Moon is the place for you! Located at the Small Five Corners, this space is a restaurant and healthy bakery. As a Bulgarian, I’m aware that banitsa could be the most delicious thing you can try, or on the contrary, it could be oily, fatty, and filled with a substitute for our famous white cheese. If you like high quality and innovative takes on banitsa, Sun Moon is а suitable place. Here they offer banitsa with tofu, dried tomatoes, and olives; with red lentils and curry; and with brown rice, spinach, and mushrooms. However, you can also taste the classic with eggs and cheese and a sweet version with apple or pumpkin.

If you are a fan of lyutenitsa*, you can buy a sugar-free version of it produced specifically for the restaurant, as well as dried vegan sausage consisting of beetroot, dried tomatoes, nuts, and seasonings.

Why is the bread so special at Sun Moon? The dough is kneaded with kvass (fermented dough which makes the bread very healthy and delicious, the way our grandmothers used to make it) and is baked in a very specific oven which is located in the city center as well. The restaurant renovated the historic oven which was established in 1934 and is called taban, meaning stone. The place offers a huge variety of bread, more than 15 kinds - high-protein, gluten-free, and many more.

Sun Moon also has an interactive menu for ordering and payment on the spot. You can visit the website (g.sunmoon.bg), order by entering the code of your table, and choose how to pay the bill at the end.
* Traditional Bulgarian spread made of roasted peppers, tomatoes, carrots, and seasonings.

Edgy Veggie

Do you love fast food but still want to stay fit and healthy? In this case, Edgy Veggie is the place for you and the next stop on our tour! It’s a vegan fast food restaurant, and it is also a green business, which means that the restaurant recycles and uses no plastic - only biodegradable packages and wooden cutlery. The restaurant offers a large variety of vegan burgers and burritos (including gluten-free options), vegan versions of classic desserts such as tiramisu, brownies, and Snickers, as well as smoothie bowls. You can also order a burger menu that includes a burger, french fries, and a local healthy version of a carbonated drink with natural fermentation and an herbal base (yes, you read correctly - you can actually drink a healthy Cola made in Bulgaria!). Edgy Veggie also offers vegan catering for your events and occasions.

Location: 18 Gladston str.
Working hours: Mon-Sun: 10:00 - 20:00
Orders: Glovo and takeaway.com

Sladkolyubnitsa Mariya’s

At our last stop, we will enjoy a healthy dessert - Sladkolyubnitsa Mariya’s is a sweet house offering a large variety of vegan cakes. They are such beautiful pieces of art, that you just cannot resist taking photos of them before digging in! The sweet house uses only high-quality ingredients and no artificial substances. The vegan cakes are also raw, sugar-free (the cakes are sweetened with figs), gluten-free, and the decoration can turn into amazing tea, as oftentimes they use dried herbs and flowers.

Among our favorite vegan cakes is Avocado and Limetta (walnuts, coconut butter, coconut flakes, lime, lemon, avocado, cashew).

In addition to this, the place is extremely eco-friendly and sustainable. You receive a discount of 5% if you bring your own reusable box/cup/mug. You can also refill your reusable bottle for free (almost, it costs one huge smile). The sweet house also supports various causes such as “Cakes for Donation” - all the money from cakes sold on the 26th of each month is donated to a shelter for homeless animals.

Location: 46 Velcho Atanasov Str, Reduta district
